Where is the retreat hosted?
Barbarenas, a sustainable retreat center, is located in La Punta, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Our eco-cabañas, built with locally sourced materials, are nestled in a tropical garden, offering a serene environment to connect with nature. We’re deeply integrated into the local community, supporting the local economy and Oaxacan culture.
Will there be others onsite during our retreat?
Barbarenas’ dedicated staff will be present at all times to ensure your stay is comfortable and safe, maintaining cleanliness and security.
Where will gatherings be held?
The open-air yoga shala offers an ocean view and can accommodate up to 16 practitioners.
What are the security measures?
Rooms are secure and they have 24-hour onsite staff. A first aid kit is available, and a reputable local hospital is nearby.
Is there Wi-Fi and electricity?
Wi-Fi is available with two Starlink Satellite connections offering high-speed internet. Please refrain from using devices in communal areas during meals and yoga sessions. Charging stations are available on all terraces.
What are the accommodations like?
Barbarenas features four guest houses, a natural swimming pool, communal kitchen, yoga terrace, and outdoor areas for various activities. Each eco-cabaña has a private terrace, ensuite bathroom, and a nook bed under traditional thatching.
What is the food like?
Barbarenas provides vegan farm-to-table meals, sourcing local and organic produce when possible. Meal times are scheduled throughout the day, offering a variety of healthy options. Tap water is not drinkable, but filtered water is available.
Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Yes, they cater to gluten-free and other dietary needs upon request.
Is alcohol available?
Alcoholic beverages are available for an additional charge.
What yoga levels are catered to?
Yoga sessions are beginner-friendly with progressions for more experienced practitioners.
Is participation in all activities mandatory?
Participation is encouraged for group cohesion, but you’re free to opt out as needed. Please inform us in advance for planning purposes.
Are additional services like massages available?
Yes, they offer a range of services including massages and Reiki sessions. A commission applies for external service providers.
Will yoga equipment be provided?
Barbarenas provide all necessary yoga props including mats, blocks, straps, and blankets.
What are the travel requirements?
Travel insurance is required. Check the Mexico CDC for vaccination updates.
When should I arrive to the retreat site?
It is advised to fly into Puerto Escondido (PXM) via Mexico City, landing by 2pm on May 14, 2024. Barbarenas partners with local taxi services for airport pick-up at an additional charge. Check-in is at 3pm and the Welcome Circle will begin at 4pm.
When should I book my flight out on Sunday?
Checkout is at noon. Please book your flight for 3pm or later on Sunday, May 19, 2024. You may leave your bags at the front and enjoy the property or walk into town if you have a later flight.
What if I want to arrive early?

What about cancellations and extra expenses?
Refer to our terms and conditions for cancellation policies. Tips are included in the retreat cost, but additional tipping is at your discretion.
What is the currency and how do I exchange money?
Currency is MXN and exchange options will be provided during orientation.
